Chemical and biochemical processes applied to the conversion of biomass to biofuels

This research line covers the production and characterization of catalysts, in addition to the assessment of technological routes for the production of biodiesel, green diesel, sustainable aviation kerosene and other bioproducts; development of alternative processes for product purification and raw material pre-treatment; production of first, second and third generation bioethanol; pyrolysis, gasification and combustion of biomass; research with fermenting microorganisms; development of fermentation processes for the production of biofuels; development of chemical or enzymatic saccharification processes; isolation and selection of enzyme-producing microorganisms; production and characterization of hydrolytic enzymes with application in the production of biofuels; and genetic engineering. In addition, this line of research integrates studies or application of tools for planning and optimizing experiments through the use of mathematical and statistical tools.
